Angry Smoke coming from my turbo.

Ok i was driving to school and noticed the sound of my turbo changed, it is louder, more raspy, and realeses much more air than before when i let off the gas. When i got home that night i popped the hood and a puff of smoke came up from the turbo, and i noticed that somthing was leaking in that area (looked like oil). I dont know if this makes a difference but i have a RB turbo-back system with the stock fuel pump, and stock wastegate size. and no BOV. But i do have a FCD. if thats helps. Anyone have the same problem in the past, or know whats going on.

well if its a bad oil control seal than your looking at having to rebuild that turbo or just buying a used one of the forsale section of this forum for like 75 to 100 bucks. How many miles on the turbo???

the previous owner rebuilt the engine 4 months (3,000) miles ago. if the turbo wasnt rebuilt than the turbo has 180k miles. Will a S5 turbo fit onto a s4?

yeah but you need the s5 manifold that would go along with it. Oh yeah and 180k miles is a hole lot for a turbo

S5 Turbo + S5 EXHAUST MANIFOLD. not intake. Approx 200-500 depending upon condition of course.

^^^ what he said but usually you can get them for around 200 to 300 I wouldn't spend 500 on it unless it was brand spankin' new and even at that I would spend the extra 100 or so and get a bnr upgrade.

hybrid turbo's that fit directly into stock location but increase horsepower dramaticly. Warning, you need other mods like fuel etc.. before getting these upgrages. Here is a link

If you're buying used, you'll have to ask the seller what they're including with the turbo and manifold. There's some risk in reusing the crushable metal gaskets, but I have and it hasn't been a problem. For the oil lines there are four paper gaskets that you'd want to get from Mazda. The coolant lines use banjo bolts so they have four copper washers that you'll want to get from Mazda. On a side note, at least where I am, Mazda seems to have the wrong parts identified for S4 banjo bolt washers.

dude, stop driving your car.... you probably fried a bearing... I fried one and replaced my turbo then that one started leaky and caught on fire.. and yeah, bad times.... you need to port your wastgate, your probably running way too much boost.

edit: and rebuild/get a new turbo
