smogging and rebuild?

how soon after a rebuild is it then safe to have the car smogged. i know my oil seal is out. should i smog it anyway now even if i fail, then take it back after the rebuild or just wait until afterwards? this is the first time i've had to smog my 7.

It will take 1000 miles or so after the rebuild before things fully settle in, so I would wait at least that long.

As for going through the e-test now, it depends. Some places don't consider oil smoke a fail. Some do. If you're not smoking and the engine is running well, then you might as well go through the test.

My oil seal is out and I passed smog. I get the big cloud at start up but soon it goes away. I passed smog easily. The car was good and warm when I went in. I had been driving all day and just happen to see one of those "Test only" stations, went in and passed. I was really happy.

oil leaking into the engine will not affect smog much, it is unburnt fuel that the test tests for, not unburnt oil or carbons. and yeah, 1k is plenty of a break in period before you smog it, i wouldn't try it much before that because seals that are not broken in will not seal as well and produce more emissions.

doesn't matter if it is smoking or not so long as it is not rich on fuel, i've seen 3.0L mistus smog fine before but everyone in the shop was wheezing on the oil burning from the worn out valve guides...

haha, ok. i don't think mine is running rich (hope so). i can stand behind my car and no tears come out, unlike the turboII. just remembered that when i took in my bro's car, engine wasn't even in the same shape as mine, much worse oil burning, it passed smog. i believe they have the take it back til it pass thingy too.

See!! the oil burns off and then your running clean. That oil seal lets that oil seep in all night long. You start up and poof your 007 until the oil burns off. Pisses me off!!! I am pulling my motor as we speak mainly to change that seal. I am getting the rest of the thingys done as well. 1st Rotory rebuild.....wish me luck. I have the guys over at Fast Freddys or Rotaryracing.com giving tech support so I think I should be OK
