smog pump removal

smog pump removal

i seen people taking out the smog equiptment for extra power like the air cond. and power steering
do you know if its as easy as taking out the air cond. and p/s just remove and it will still run ok or what
i am wanting to take mine out but i would like to know if i can just remove the air pump and i will be done with it

you cannot take out the airpump unless you have gutted or no convertors.

AC and PS are easy to take out. just pull the AC, pull the PS pump, loop the ps lines. do a search there are lots of threads on it. i think i may have done one once. yes the car will run fine with no ps and ac.

and don't bother to remove the A/C, power steering, and air pump if you are trying to get additional HP.

The gains with removing all those things (which are never really on much anyway) is pretty minimal... like less than 2HP PEAK).

If you have a S4 (pre-89, I think) engine, and no cats, the air pump can leave with no harm.

If you have a S5 (89-91) engine, you need the air pump. It drives the 6th ports (on a non-turbo) & VDI. You'll *lose* power without it.

ive asked this a few times but never got an answer, but what if you remove the air pump and still have the cats?

and has been answered countless times...

The stock cats will overheat and die pretty quick without feed air from the air pump
