Almost everytime I start my car is seems to crank very slowly for a second or two then fire right up. It has never done this before so I am just wondering what things I should look into. The battery is a 6 month old Optima red top. The engine is a RR rebuild with large SP.

Any suggestions?

 

starter going bad? mine cranked slow for a good month before my starter actually went out

 

Check timing. If too far retarded it will crank slowly.

 

I've had a car do that with a bad starter. Even with full voltage it'd crank slow for a couple seconds till it heated up. IT actually caused some hard starting/flooding issues. A new starter fixed it.

 

Serious? timing can affect how fast a starter turns over the engine? i dunno.. I don't think that has anything to do with it.

 

thanks to all who replied. Snow is probably on its way soon so it sounds like I will add a new starter to the already long list on mods for the upcoming winter.
