slow n/a

I have an 87 N/a and it's pretty fast but I loose alot after 1st gear especially to alot of v-tecs. I raised a gt mustang smoked him off the line but he came back and beat me buy a tad. the point is I beat everyone of the line every time but my car just won't hang can someone give me some suggestions.
mods:
Hks intake
custom made dual exhaust
gutted pre-cats
17 inch silver rims
gangster paint job
160,000 miles not sure if it has been rebuilt.

Your 17" rims definately arent helping you any. the tires are probable bigger than stock tires(diameter), and Im sure the 17's weigh more. That contributes to more driveline losses, and a bigger tire lower the effective final drive ratio. That slows the car down by making it rev slower. You do get more MPH from each gear, but at the expense of some acceleration.

Other than that, you just need more power or a lighter car. Theres still plenty of basic bolt-ons you could do, like pulleys, electric fan, port the intake manifold, etc.

what kind of vtecs are you racing? with just intake and exhaust you might hang with the civic SI's (160hp) but i GUARANTEE you'll still lose to del sol vtec, most prelude vtecs, and a GSR.

mazdaspeed is right though...the 17's are probably slowing you down and with some more mods you can compete
