slight popping noise when turning wheel from lock to lock...?

I get a light popping noise wheen turning the wheel from lock to lock when I am not moving.

the steering rack is a s4, depowered, looped lines. been like that for 1.5 years no leaking fluid.

I also get a mild grinding noise when turning the wheel going in reverse. Thinking wheel bearings.

Any Ideas? I'm going to put the front end in the air when I get home and check the wheel bearings and rack. Shoot me some suggestions.

thanks guys.

My first guess would be worn out bushings.

Its not in the suspension, its in the rack/ tie rods im pretty sure of that.

If thats the case then you just answered your own question lol

EDIT:

Just pop both tie rod ends off (or one just to start) and grab the disconnected strut like my5ababy in that video. If you hear the noise - strut mount (note it'll be less pronouced when theres no weight on that strut). If theres no noise, slide the rack in and out. If you hear it - start checking tie rods for play, then move into the rack.

my friend has a TII and when his started making that noise i said rack aswell but he went behind my back and had it looked at. come find out it was his strut mounts. it got more noticeable in the cold and when it was in the air hard to find but he replaced them and now it doesnt make that noise AND not as much tension when he turns the steering wheel (manual rack)
