I don't think the 2nd gen RX-7 can qualify as a sleeper, unless it is bondo colored & has alot of dents..

Now, a 1st gen or RX-3.. Those can be sleepers.. even when they look nice.. I have taken out 5.0 mustanges with exhausts.. and they where definatly supprised..

My paint is oxidizing everywhere on my car and it's dinged to hell. Aside from the fact it's getting painted next week and a mild spoiler, it will look like every other RX-7 on the road. It won't have any badges or anything. It'll just look decent and go like a ******* bastard. I guess I'd consider it a sleeper. So I'm with sleeper!! Read the sig for the motor

I am planning to augment my car's external appearance with the help of RE Amemiya, R-Magic, and Knightsports Of course there is going to have to be some massive engine work done so the rest of the car can keep up with the look. Sleeper's are cool if you have a Galant VR4 like me, this car is the ultimate sleep because its the only car I know of that doesn't say its turbocharged and/or AWD on the outside. The VR4 badge on the 92's are almost unnoticeable, even hidden.

Sleeper all the way. Hell, I even have stock rims on my fc still. Not a single thing on the outside that implies its anything other than stock. And thats the way I like it.

its all about your personal preference. i dont have a lot of money so my exterior is going to be stock for a long time. exterior mods are cool if they aren't ricey.
i like to have a nice interior because when i'm driving my car i dont usually see the exterior, so it doesnt matter.

HHHHHHMMMMMMMMM.........Well I guess I like both.
The reason I say this is because I hate rice boys that have the exterior totally macked out and under the hood is STOCK!!!! Which I think is really funny that chicks dig these ****(not aimed towards homosexuals)

At the same time. I think a sweet car is the total package. Not just exterior or performance........
In the end I would choose PERFORMANCE over looks any day of my life. But if your going to be picky you might as well have both.

AS A PROJECT, PERFORMANCE IS ALWAYS #1
oh, ya! I would never own, modify, or like a car just to get women. AS FAKE AS O.J.

Sleeper baby. A honduh rolls up to ya at a light, thinks "I'm gonna cream this RX-7 so I can tell all my friends I beat one, even though it is old!" Then, you eat them alive. Sleepers are FUN!

I make them feel like I don't give a 5h!T about my ride. So the last time I wash my car is like last September(unless it was rained on). I leave my front bumper hanging by zip ties and cracked /chipped paint all over the body. So I really haven't had to race anyone in it. Imho, around here in my town are just too many muscle cars and nos abuse for my poor little old NA to hang in the straights. Also my my sister needs to drive around town w/o being harassed and give easy wins to those honduhs.

I think a lot of you who answered 'Sleeper' haven't ever been faced with the reality of one. While the thought of a bondo & primer shitbox that runs 12's may be somewhat appealing in thought I doubt that's the way you'd go. I'm sure as soon as there was an 'adequate' amount of power, you'd temporarily switch direction to the body before going off the deep end in power mods.

You take for granted what a fine looking car the FC is in the first place. It's not like driving around in a hopped up Omni GLH where for $3K in car & mods 13's are very easy.

I bring this up because I almost went the sleeper route, but the deal fell through. It was a '90 Miata that looked completely stock, but would run high 13's (ala Corky Bell). I was ecstatic about the power, but as the idea of it set in when I realized how many Miatas were on the road and how they didn't have nearly the lines and sex appeal of the '90 vert I was driving. Too bad for me, it turned out the Miata had a blown head gasket and the owner wouldn't move on price.

In summary, while speed is nice you gotta have a balance between that and looks. Otherwise, we'd all be driving Omnis and rusted out Mustangs.

go_speed_go we arent talking about driving a POS car with mad rust and what have you, the term sleeper is a car that is alot faster than it looks. Im still confused about a miada runnig 13's with a blown head gasket, sad thing is i have beat 3 miatas with my old 85 12a, they are just slow

I like a little of both. Sleepers are OK, but they get old after you rip open your hand on a rust hole while doing a roadside fix (been there, done that). Cars with style (read: No garish wings or noses), are just cool to look at even sitting still. A plus is if the car can back up the looks through the twisties

speed first, then once you can wipe up anything you'd realistically see, get something for the exterior.
speed first, looks later
I really hate wings, unless you need one because you're so fast, but that won't be for a LONG time/never. And get a nice looking bodykit, something that won't crack or look like crap. No awfully tacky stuff.

Around here the cars with body kits on `em aren't all that fast. I've beetin more "pimp" Civic's than I care to remember.

That being said, I want a mix. Without going into specifics, my plans for my car (before my "accident") was:

750+ HP at the wheels (150 of that NOS on a Jacobs controller)
Mariah Wide Body Kit
17" Rims with Low Profile "Z" rated tires
Either Yellow or Lime Green Paint
Entire Interior "Overhaul" with racing seats, custom colors, roll bar, 5 point harnes, etc.....

The car would be un-touchable and around here just because it looks good doesn't mean it's fast. Besides, if your car has the *****, make it look good. How often do you pull up next to a car (any car) with a body kit on it and attempt to hand him his a$$..... I bet most, if not all, of the times, huh....

From the software I have here, the car will run low 9's @ 140-145 MPH with mild racing tires. With the Wide Body Kit I will have room to put the tires I need on the car. The car's top speed will be above 200MPH, I don't know if I have ***** that big though. My only worry at this point is keeping the front wheels on the ground

It was a Miata with a Bell Engineering Turbo system. There were exhaust gases in the coolant, but it was still hella fast.
