slave cylinder question
slave cylinder question
I recently purchased a master cylinder, steel braided clutch line, and a slave cylinder. I did not see until afterwards that it said that it was a "non-turbo only" slave cylinder. My question is, is there a difference, interanally, between a turbo II slave and a n/a slave cylinder? The exterior looks to be the same, so if anyone knows for a absolute fact that there is or is not a difference between them I would appriciate knowing. Thanks.
I'll put it this way. The cylinders on a series four are different. One is longer. See the attached jpgs.
But, say you bought a rebuild kit instead of a cylinder. The parts are the same in the rebuild kit. See Carparts.com and compare a series four n/a with a turbo rebuild kit. The part numbers for the Wagner and the Raybestos brands are the same b/t turbo/non turbo.
So, if your turbo cylinder bore is first rate then you could take the guts out of the n/a you bought and install them. It WILL work. IF the cylinder is at least cleaned out with say some 220 wet/dry paper rolled into a cylinder shape and rotated in the bore to clean any rust out.
EDIT CORRECTION: The cylinders are the same length, but where the length is in relationship to the attach bolt holes is different.
EDIT: The non turbo one is on the left in the two pictures. I have used a non turbo on a turbo transmission/engine and had to cut the *rod* down to the right length. Rod not shown in the picture. Rod does come with a new slave cylinder. A plus.
