Six port vs Four port induction
I have an 86 GXL 2nd Gen and was told by a friend that my engine was a 4 port because of the year it was built. Looking at the specs for that year I see that it is a six port. This confuses me as my mechical ability ended 20 yrs ago and I have never had a rotary prior to that. I want to put a RB true dual exhaust on the car. I have read that the # of ports must come into consideration when replacing the exhaust.
The car does have an airpump which makes me think I have a 6 port. Is there any other way to determine my engine type?
TIA
Charles

the header for the six port engines From 86-88 will have a Tube for the aux port Activation..the Racing beat Header for the 89-91 has No tube.since the air pump activates the Aux ports...you can use a 89-91 header,as long as you get a Presilencer with a tube to activate the aux ports,OR make a Test pipe with a Tube that will Run them,Off that test pipe...OR Wire The ports open(lose bottom end Torque a bit,But the Car will Be more aggresive at higher revs.).Your Choice.Good luck,.and hope that helps.

Your friend is a moron.
All NA FC's are 6-port, so is the 84-85 GSL-SE.
All turbo FC's (and all FD's) are 4-port as well.
For your 6-port's (true dual will disable them): http://www.rotaryresurrection.com/2n...actuation.html
Enjoy
