Hmmm....this is a new fresh idea. I would go ahead and try it none the less. I mean you really can't go wrong. Mine will be 2.5 or 3in all the way back when I bolt up my new Bonez RP and Corksport SS single. Personally I like the single look over the double look. Don't ask me why, I just never understood why Mazda went single, double single, with their generations. If you do decide to do this tell us what the results are.

I have a single 2.5 with RB headers and pre-silencer. the muffler is a Dynomax Stainless Ultra Flo.
The top end power is unbelievable! low end didn't suffer. but it is loud!!!. The reason it is so loud is because the guy that put it together for me didn't do it right. He set it up like those ricer *** holes where the muffler is hanging right out the back. I took a peice of pipe and duct taped it to the exhaust that was the same lenght that it would be if the guy had tucked the muffler under the car like he was supposed to. the Dbs dropped in half.
So, the moral of this story is to be sure to tell them you want the muffler tucked in and a tail pipe at least one foot long.
don't go with 3" you will loss too much low end and no top. it will only make it louder

Bigger != better
You want an exhaust that keeps exhaust gas velocity high in the low end and not restrictive in the high end.
If you are putting on a header, the opening diameter on the collector is around 2.5inch, there is no point in putting an exhaust that has a bigger diameter.

If you do, you are actually going to hurt performance with the gas velocity slowing down and condensing in the exhaust tubing

2.5inch would be the best bet.

I got 2.5 inch. Good for backpressure which adds for torque. 3 inch is too big. I love my single!

I've got a 2.5 single exit on mine.. Fairly quiet at idle, but at full song.. it gets loud. We'll see, I may be to add a presilencer, especially for Laguna..

3" in exhaust pipes are too big for n/a. If you had a turbo then 3" would be good. 2.25" or 2.5" pipes would be better for your car.

Dynomax makes very good round mufflers. I have had mine on the car for over 1 year now, it handles all the flames I can put out of it. It ran me $110.

I just got a 3" exhaust for the T2 with a 3" " bullet" muffler, and SS 3" tip for $145 installed.

Let me know, if you need a deal like this.

seventhgear you will be sorry if you put on a flowmaster they do not sound good....you are better off with an import tuned exhaust....apexi is a great exhaust ive got a DUNK right now its awesome and do not go over 2.5 that isnt the limit but you are loosing more backpressure the higher you go and you still need some with an NA....

I have the new style Racing Beat cat back exhaust. I love the sound of it but good god is it heavy. I am going to switch to a single just for the weight reduction. At first I was against the single but it is better than weighing the car down

Okay, now the question becomes who makes headers that collect at 2.5" or 3"? I know that the RB header collects at 2", which to me is just too damn small for a rotary.

i'm not a fan of duals myself and was wondering if there was an exhaust similiar to the racing beat (low sound/good performance) except single.
