Smile Single Exhaust: Left or right side?

I'm going for a single exhaust and wanted some opinions as to which side I should put it on. I'm thinking the driver's side since that's where most sports cars have it. But the FD has it on the passenger side.

Mine's on the drivers side, and I think that it looks good. I just wish that I could find a bumper that has a single opening.

I was thinkin of goin in the very middle, like the porsche boxster. no one has that, only problem would be that there is no lil opening...thats just my opinion.

Can't I just fill in the remaining indent with bondo or something?

In the Japanese cartoon Initial D, the FC has the exhaust on the driver's side. That's why I was thinking of putting it there.

I'd like to do that, but the gas tank and the spare tire are in the way.

I have a single exhaust on my TII, and it is on the right side of the car. I like it on the passenger side because its a bit less noisy for the driver.
By the way, in Initial D the FC's single exhaust is also on the passenger side--the left side of the car in Japan.

For some unkown reason, the Apex GT is on the drivers side and the Apex N1 is on the passenger side?
I have a friend who has the N1 single and he filled the indentation in on the other side and had it painted. You can't even tell it was meant for dual exhaust. Looks real nice!

One more comment: I have a single, on the passenger (right) side. I'm able to change my driveshaft without dropping the exhaust... no big deal, but it worked out nicely. If it crossed over to the other side, that would not have been possible. I have a 3" single too.

My 88 T2 that I have now, I just went with single on the Pass side, it seemed natural, as the exhaust side is on that side, so its almost right back from there. The single saves on weight too!

Aestetically, I think Ryde-or-die has the right idea. Left of right will leave an out of balance look with the empty bumper depression left. So if you go out the middle, you'll be balanced between the two openings.

However, practically you'll need to go out either side considering heat shielding, space design for routing exhaust, etc.

My vote, both Mazda 1st and 3rd Gen have it on the passenger side. Being Mazda faithful, I gotta vote Passenger side also.

go left side! everybody and their grandma likes to put it on the right! go left!

I was considering putting my exhausts side ways behind the rear skirt so that they're visible through the openings...then I'd like the pipes to curve into the middle so that I have both of them right next to each other.

hmmm, perhaps they could be sideways and come out through the main openings?

my N1 single catback exits on the passenger side. but it looks cool. even thought there's still an outlet "half-circle" on the driver side, i don't notice it...but thats probably because i have a black car hehe

I have mine on the drivers side since its basically a straight shot from the downpipe(soon to be header) to the two bends before the muffler.

This is a good point, plus it's easier, cheaper, and possibly has a bit better performance. Also, if you are one of those weight distribution freaks, the passenger-side exhaust will help to balance out the car laterally when racing with the passenger seat empty. I don't think this will make a whole lot of difference for a street car, though, so the left side would be fine if you just want to make a statement.

If you open your hood, you will see that the headlights have a round manual crank so that you can deploy your headlights should the motor fail.
