simple brake question?

Can I put 4 piston calipers on a 4 lug SE model? If its not a bolt on what do I have to do to make it work? Also did these models come with ABS? thanx for the help guys.

im pretty sure you'd need to do the 5 lug conversion

You need to do the 5 lug conversion because the rotors are different sizes and wont fit the calipers.

Damn it. Do you think its worth it? the most I am going to do is some autocross. Would some better tires do the job because this tires I have on right now are garbage.

And did SE models come with ABS?

Well....the brakes are better and less prone to fading than the single pistons...but really both setups can lock the tires (when they're not faded that is)

But better tires are a good idea whether or not you do the swap since, really, rubber affects your stopping distance more so than the clamping ability of the caliper.

Check the FAQ or FC sticky for model options.

For autocross the 4 lug brakes are probably better. Here's why: They're smaller and lighter, meaning you've got less unsprung and rotating mass which will help your car handle and accelerate better. If you're finding braking to be lacking, try different pads before you go full out and get the larger brakes, and definetely get good tires. For the track, the bigger brakes would be a good idea though, as fade will become an issue, whereas with autocrossing, the run's over before fade will occur.

What is so hard about swapping hubs? Go to a junkyard... you can get the hubs for probably no more then $40. Then you need to use a drill press to remove the bearings from the front hubs (always a good idea if your going racing to replace wheel-bearings). It'll take a day of labor but you can do a complete brake conversion. I did a complete TII brake conversion for $350 but I was lucky and I was able to reuse the rotors from the junker.
