what is the silver box under the drives side dash?

are you talking about the ecu, thats under the dash on the passenger side?

some had amplified sound systems this may be one of the amplifiers in my 88 vert i remved a factory pioneer amp from the drivers side under dash
i dont know if that is in fact what yours is but look to see if it says pioneer or has heat sinks on the side of it

nope its not an amp or and ecu its on the drives side its about 3" by 4" in size it has one big blug in it and thats it i unpluged it and my car still started. i have an aftermaket alarm and that box is keeping all my alarm stuff in a really small area and if i can get rid of that i will have alot more room for all that crap. thanks for the help

i thught someone said something about there being a power steering unit under there and i tryed to look it up again and couldent find it. if it is the power steering unit i guess its safe to take it out. thanks 87 t-66

the technical name for it is the "power steering control unit" its not safe to take it out if you have power steering!!!

I'm not sure but that might be that stupid computer that controlls the "auto adjusting suspension". It probably ties into the power steering and controlls those stupid motors on the stock struts. It probably wouldn't hurt to remove it...

no, the aas computer is located at the rear of the car, behind the spare tire, between the tail lights.

I guess the FSM is infected with herpes....

It's going to be the power steering ECU, or cruise control ECU.

i dont think its the cruise control ecu cus i took that box out and my cruise still works fine, im assuming its for power steering because i took my ps out first andi noticed no difference after i took it out. exept my horn started working for some reason but im sure its a coincidance
