Silencer in muffler bad?

Shop told me that if I use it its bad for the motor. I cannot stand the noise of my car and managed to fit one for $40cdn.

Will this work or hurt my motor? I only intend to use it for cruising and city driving. Taken off in track events etc?

Ideas?

Thanks,

I use the silencer for the Apexi N1...... it is so much quieter =) my neighbors like me now.... they used to hate me for the noise......
i have never heard of hurting the motor when using the silencer.....
And i think after adding the silencer the car had better torque (so it seems) but it does affect the top speed a little.....

but i think it is fine =)

Thanks.

I have one for my N1, just don't take it past 6000 RPM and you'll be fine. Everything goes to **** past there with it installed. Torque "seems" higher at low end with it installed, but that might be an illusion because you're making less noise so it seems like more power with less effort from the motor.

Why/how would he blow the engine?????

It's just a restrictor in the exhaust.

It pretty much turns a high flow exhaust into a stock unit for flow.

I mean it's not like it makes you lean and detonate.
It would make you richer if you had following mods.

The only way I could guess that the guy blew his engine is if he had a fuel controller and tuned the car with the silencer on. Then it came/fell out and he went lean due to it being tuned for it restricted.

If I'm wropng please explain.

I don't get how it would blow an engine.

Yah, IIRC the guy that "blew" his engine or whatever with the silencer going onto the freeway, looked inside the exhaust to see a bent/blown silencer like it had gotten way too pressurized or something.
