Question signs of pilot bearing failing and climbing uphill

hey guys,

I was wondering if anyone can give me signs of the pilot bearing failing, or about to fail. I know you can't shift when the bearing is completely shot. How else can you tell, any early signs or sounds?

Also, I have a question about climbing uphill, I heard rotaries aren't good to push uphill (myth or truth?). Do any of you guys rev it when climbing hills with your 7? How about with the AC on (no hill), is it bad to rev the engine up into the 5 or 6 k rpm?

Actually its better to downshift and go up the hill than to let it lug at low rpms and suffer all the way up. Transmission trouble shooting is difficult to do online but there is a List of symptoms on Mazdatrix website that will give you a good idea of what it may be. http://mazdatrix.com/g2.htm
