should I, or shouldn't I?
Well the times come for me to finally buy my RX-7. I wanted to get some feedback from the experts (you guys) about the car that I was considering buying before I go through with the purchase.
The car's a 1990 Mazda RX-7 GXL. It's black in colour in and out and has about 162450km (or 101000 miles) on it. It's fully loaded (minus leather seats), but unfortunately it is an automatic (sigh ). I know its been sitting on the used car dealership for over a year now, which kinda worries me. I've tookin' it for a test drive and it feels fine to me, and I know it will need a new exhaust system. They want about $3800CDN for it, but I figure I can talk them down to at least $3000CDN.
My question to you guys is: should I go for it, or should I keep lookin'?

Being new to rotaries I'm sure your ear hasn't yet developed into a compression tester...
But how did it sound when it started up? Did it sound strong, just turned over real hard and started like you'd expect a new car? ....or did it turn over kinda slow and took a few cranks before it fired up?
A guy in town has a '93 R1 with 154k on the ORIGINAL engine... I couldn't believe it, I was shocked. Anyway, I heard him crank that thing up and it sounded like it was on it's last leg.
If the rest of the car is in great shape, and you're sure that it's going to run for a while I say go for it. As soon as I start tearing the convertible apart I'll have a S5 flywheel, tranny, driveshaft, and diff that I'll be trying to get rid of.

Just don't buy it if you have any intention of racing it or making it even quick. The automatics really suck and you will be sorely disappointed. Hondas will be faster than you.

RX-7's are in short supply in my area, and 3800-3000 Canadian is about 2600-2000 US.
Before the guy could start it up, he had to change the battery and put some gas in, so it did turn over kinda slow and took a few cranks before it fired up, but as soon as it was started it sounded strong. As for the rest of the car, it's in great shape.
Thanks for the advice, and please keep me in mind when it comes time to get rid of those parts.

I would be hesitant to buy it... If its only going for 3800 something has to be wrong with it or the Seller is a retard.. I bought my S4 for 4500..... Get a big *** inspection done on it before your even think of buying it!

He wants $5000 certified or $3800 non-certified. So I know it's going to need some work.
Should I be concerned about how much life is left in the engine and tranny though?
