Should I buy this turbo II?

Hey guys,

I found a 1988 Turbo II for sale for $1500 obo. Here are the details:

125k miles
Near perfect body
New exhaust
Needs clutch

The only prob I see is that its about 1000 miles from me. Is it worth taking the risk of buying an rx-7 without being able to inspect it?

So figure the cost to ship it is roughly 500 and let's say I talk the price down to 1400. Should I pounce on this?

Also, I kind of wanted an NA...

Thanks

Don't even think about it. You need to have a compression test done and have the coolant tested for hydrocarbons before buying a TII.

What if I could have the seller do a compression test at a mazda dealership and email/fax whatever the results?

Uh....what's the prodecure for buying a distant rx-7 that it's impossible to check out in person? With shipping the cost less than 2 grand, and the fact t2's seem to go for more than that.....SO...this seems like a good opportunity.

If its cheap, bound to be something wrong with it. Save up some money and find one with reciepts.

if it's got 125k miles on that motor it's bound to die soon. I wouldn't do it.

1500 is not bad. I would pull hte motor as soon as I got it and send it to Kevin Landers at Rotary Resurrection and have him do a rebuild on it for around 1000 and streetport. Then 2500 dollars you will have a solid car.

what about the turbos they may have problems and i thought it was a bit more than 1k to have some one else build your motor + a street port. i just spend $550 on a kit and get out my rotary tool

I'd offer him around $500 knowing you will have to replace the clutch, and engine.

Estimate for engine is usually: $2200 w/o sending in the core.

Estimate for clutch: around $200-300

Labor cost me around $1000 to do a engine swap, with the flywheel and clutch already bolted onto the engine, so you do the math.

IMO, find yourself a TII with reciepts so you have an idea of how well it was maintained.

Thanks for the advice guys. After thinking about it further, I would rather my first rx-7 be an N/A regardless of how sexy a black t2 looks.

Just because I'm not a dick and want to make someones day, I'm sure someone is close to this thing and can check it out for their own purposes.

Enjoy.

You need to have a compression test done without a doubt. I mean thats mandatory when your going to buy a Turbo II or any Rotary thats for sure my brotha.
