as far as the mechanical aspect goes, put a vac tester on it. 17-21hg is idle.

If your chevy aint cuttin it on gas mileage, neither will your rx7. And really you have to take out a loan for a 500 dollar car? How are you gonna manage insurance? And you already know the car has a problem meaning you're gonna need cash to fix it.
Honestly, don't get the car. Sounds to me like youre getting in waaaay too deep.

how is an rx7 not gonna get better than 13 mpg and im not hurting for money i just dont have the money right yet and who knows how long this car is gonna stick around thats the only reason for getting a loan ...i can pay for the car and insurance no problem i just wanted to know how reliable these cars are and if it could possibly be that easy as a vaccum leak to fix

N/A's are pretty reliable motor wise. It's just all the little problems you run into with a 20 year old sports car. Like electrical and what not. And as far as gas goes, you can get 17-18 mpg in the city if you take it easy driving, but thats hard to do in a 7. I average about 15 mpg.

Look at it this way. If you can't afford insurance then you can't afford gas for a rx-7. If you can afford gas for a rx-7 then you prob cant even afford a car and should stick to a bike. Shifting under 3k can show gas will last OK in an N/A Rx-7. Now if you dont know how to drive and shifting at all the wrong times your gas will go bye bye. I usually throw my **** into neutral any chance i get. Sure if a car is coming towards you then you better be prepared to downshift that hoe and get out the way though. Drive a 2 ton truck or a V8 for a few days, you will wish you had something like a 7 or even better.

I can afford the FC/insurance/gas (that's why I have one). I was just saying about why I get shitty mileage. It's cause I shift at 4k a lot. I do that on purpose. I do put it in neutral any chance too. But even when I baby the 7, I still don't get great gas mileage. Haha

That symptom could be due to low engine compression. Only fix for that is a rebuild or engine replacement. Figure on $1,500 at a bare minimum if you do the work yourself. Ask yourself if you can afford that and more before you spring for this car. These cars are ~20 years old, as previously pointed out, so they can be a money sink to keep them running.
