should i buy this car ???

oh kay
so this guy is selling his GTU with a TII swap for like 1500, not a bad deal, jdm engine too. the swap was done by pro's at a motorsports shop in his town.... however, the car has no comp. he didnt rebuild the engine when he got he just had it swaped. its red has blck int 5spd. nice car, but hte no comp worries me a lil do you guys thing its worth the time going down there, renting a piggy back trailer from u-haul. i mean i personaliy like the car, but i have never had to rebuild one yet (i know its pretty simple compared to some of the stuff ive had to work one). but do any of you guys think the housings might be shot ??

first off is a S4 or S5 what Year will determine.
hows the body miles on the engine or an estimate did the motor ever run after the swap?
why did the guy stop the project.

s5, he stopped because he dosent have the time to do a rebuild. body is in really good shape. i belive it has 118k on the meter. i mean it sounds really good and i have no prob going and getting it. the car ran b4 the swap with the N/A engine and no it didnt run after the swap due to the no comp.... unless it did run but was rough, but from the way he talks it wasent like he got out and tryd to drive or anything.

Not that it's a good thing that it's got a JDM engine in it. Apparently, many people have had bad luck in getting a JDM TII engine that wasn't on the verge of needing a rebuild.

I just paid about a grand for an 89 n/a with a blown engine a few months ago to do a turbo swap. I would think if it's a complete car it would be worth it depending on the body and stuff.

You are looking at a rebuild, if its an S5 with a clean shell and low rust with a clean interior then it is probably worth it. But keep in mind you are looking at a rebuild and who knows what else it will need.

holy ****! a grand for a blown n/a?!

I picked up my 91 n/a with 40k on a rebuilt motor for 1500!

Personally i think its gonna take a lot of work to get that thing how you want it, keep an eye on it but keep looking elsewhere too, drive through the local used car section of town, you'd be surprised what will pop up

Why would anyone do a T2 swap on a coupe, unless it's a really sweet N/A coupe? Did they swap the the trans, driveshaft, diff and half shafts?

so you can build a really decent car for 3,600 dollars. All the other drivetrain stuf holds up at stock boost.

so the guy goes through all the time to swap in the engine but doesnt have an ecu. that seems quite "scumbag liarfull" if you ask me. the car will still run with an na ecu. ummm.. you are buying an na with a t2 motor with prob **** compression for 1500 dollars. I dont hate that deal. Send your motor out to b rebuilt for 1200 or so, that sounds like a well running t2 for under 3 grand. nice. assuming probably incorrectly that rotors and housings are within specs.

Well, a used JDM engine of unknown condition usually sells for about $1K, and a used coupe roller in good shape usually sells for about $500, so there is your $1,500. Now the question is whether you want to try your luck with those unknown parts and spend your time and money making those parts into a working car, or simply buy a running car that you can better evaluate prior to the purchase. The choice is up to you, but I recommend that you set aside at least $3,000 for the project in addition to the purchase price.

Could be, but it sounds to me like the typical person who doesn't realize until it is too late that it takes more than $1,500 and two twists of a screwdriver to make a well-running RX-7.

I'd say if you knew what your doing with a swap I'm offer him a grand. Just hope you can trouble shoot or just bite the bullet and yank the motor to have it built. 1k isnt lowballin but it may turn out to be a good deal? my buddy found his first na rotary a few years ago for 300 bucks. suposidly had blown motor and it sat for two years. He changed the gas, plugs and wires turned around and sold it for 3k a year later lol.

See if you can get it for a grand. Hell if he cant sell it he might go lower?

Whats up with the one random aftermarket wheel?

good qustions to ask this was what i was wanting to know.
the shell he used was a GTU (not sure if the 90 model came with an lsd or not, or if it could handel any real hp). he only said he did a jdm engine swap, but most swaps i have seen come with engine, wiring harness, and ecu or, engine, ecu, wiring harness, and trans. he did state in his listing that he changed out the driveshaft and new fuel pump, has raceing beat turbo back exhuast. if the car im buying cant handel about 300-350 hp with out me having to change drivetrain then i really dont want to waste my time.

as far as setting aside money i have a second car as a DD, so taking the time to rebuild the 7 wouldent be that much of a problem. its been about a 2 years or so that i have studied the fc (mainly the TII) and have wanted one for along time saw this deal and thought it might be worth looking into. thanks for the feedback this gives me a few qustions to aks him.

or 300-350hp it will be highly recommended to switch to the Turbo Drivetrain.
