Short Shifting

I was wondering if getting a short shifter for my 91 Rx-7 is worth the money. And do the short shifters really help cut shift time. Also what is the best kind to get for smoothness and speed.

Id say save your money and just practice shifting your car better.

They do make a shorter throw that can lead to a shorter shift time, but its all about you in the end.

It wont cut down a hell of alot, but it will be quicker. None the less you could still practice "speed shifting" and get it so you can Sh|fT MaD qUiCk Y0!... Other than that just practice with the stock

Actually, the Mazdatrix SS makes your throws SO DAMN SHORT!!! The shifting effort does increase some, but I think it's definately a good thing. If you like spirited driving, and not just drag, you know what I mean when I say that the short shifter helps you keep a better rhythm...

It's worth it.

at first it might be slower - but it will speed up shifts and make it more "spirited" once you get the hang of the new positions.

I love mine.........

i have the mazdaspeed short shifter kit
i love it ,its awesome
shifts are cut in half , throw wise.
it was 300 buck could used that for something else but whatever.
if it were me i would just get use to stock and practice.

Yeah, I agreed with the Mazdatrix one. Not sure how short it gets though it is really short. But, it just feels right, like how it should be. Especially when I jump in the Talon TSi, that things shifter makes me sick after the Mazda it's like sloppy and long. But anyway, even if it's not quicker it goes great with the theme of the car as it seems more direct and in touch. Oh and a Civic shifter is the nastiest I've seen so far, looks like it should be in a truck (tested friends after putting a tach in a DX for him so he don't blow the engine).

I hate them personally, most of them are just so damn short that it feels like it should be on an RC car.

You just move slow Anyway, it just feels like a toy to me with how short they make them, and for $300, i'd deal with the .2 seconds I lost between shifts

One of my favortie mods by far.. it's not even all about making you shift faster for me.. which it does.. but it feels soo good.. I love shifting with it and everyone that drives my car loves it too.

My custom made pedals by sleddriver, my Momo Race steering wheel and my shortshifter with tiny little Razo ****... none of these increade my HP.. but they make my car more fun to drive.. remember these inputs are how you control the car! These are my favorite mods.

it just feels better. the whole assembly becomes "tighter" to me. mine is just a little lower than stock but the throws are really short. remember it's the throw length that makes a shifter "short" not the height!! i think too many peeps misunderstand all of that at times. overall it's a just a "feel" preference.
