short shifter help please!!! FAST!!!!!

So i was trying to install my short shifter thingy, has to grind down a little of the plastic peice around the ball like the miata short shifter. So i push it in the slot of the shifter and the plastic peice gets stuck inside but the shifter came right out and i cant get the ball part of the shifter back in.... any idea what i should do now? hammer it in???

pull the nylon piece out with a hook tool and sand it down some more, it should slide freely not stick like that.

try taking the wave washers out and put some axle grease on the bushings, originally FC shifters only had the lower bushing but the top one helps support it but it also add more resistance, adding some grease should help.
