Talking Short Block done....Thanks to all of you.

Hey Forum!! I have the short block together and back on the stand ready for intake etc.

I wanted to thank you guys for the help. Some of the help was intentional. Some of the help came from YOU having a problem and posting it. The answers that people gave you helped me.

I promise you, with out this forum there would not have been any chance in hell I would have been able to do this. I have no access to a shop since coming here to Cali.

My uncle owned a VW, Audi, Porsche dealership in Texas, so building bug motors was always real easy seeing as I had been sent to Wolfsberg for Tech Training in the 70s.

This Rotary was something really different, there are just things that you cannot know about this motor.

If you ask me now. I would encourage anybody to build a motor. Just get the video and join this forum.

Again, Thank you. This has been fun for me and my 12 and 9 year old boys

I hope it starts

Here are the final pics before I put it in. I have it on the floor so I could torque the flywheel nut.

Check out the torque wrench.......725 ftlbs

ahahahah, nice bike man, BOTH of em. lol
Judging from the pics you had bad oil seals? you can see oil seaping all over and inside of the exhuast ports.

btw, that torque wrench is freakin HUGE!!!
Did you need a breaker bar for the 300 some odd pounds of torque for the flywheel?

No That torque wrench goes to 750 lbs by itself. No breaker needed. With that thing it felt like the E-shaft was going to twist in half. Like a bolt when it breaks.....snap. But it didn't it just kept turning until the "click",,,,,,,done.

Yes, the oils seals were bad/cracked, I was using about a quart of oil per tank of gas. Towards the end it was fill the oil tank and and by the way check the gas.

The front Iron was also broken. right in the area where everybodies seal goes out. Mine had a 3/4" piece missing and the coolant seal was rotted away. Had to replace the front Iron. Luckily I found one for $25 locally

Thank all of you for the comments, it is appreciated.

depends how nit picky you are, i took my time detailing the engine before putting it in and it took about a week of after work installation time to get it all back together. usually takes me about 4-5 hours to get the engine back in and running.

I hope to have everything clean before I start to drop it in. The motor is clean and after a night if cleaning 3/4 of the engine bay is clean. The only 1/4 left is the driver side where all the hoses and wires are. I got tired and left it last night.

That crossmember was 1/2" thick with grime. I was trying to clean it with a rag but it is easier to scrape off becuase it is soo thick. Nasty.

The cool thing is that under the oil everything is like new with the exception of the white paint being stained yellow from the oil.
