Shims and spring set for Front brakes 4 POT

does anyone know if they are "NEEDED" or just optional? I am thinking the shims are prolly optional and the springs are definitly needed. Anyone have any input about the shims?

If you are talking about the pad backing plate shim and the little "Z" spring that slips over the top of the pads... yes they are required per Mazda.
