Shifting in an automatic
Shifting in an automatic
Is shifting in an automatic bad for the tranny? When I take off I get absolutely no speed, I tried it once by going about 40kmh and then shifting to D1 and it gave me a nice jump and my rpm's went up fast, it was a lot faster than just putting the pedal down in drive. And damn, is the automatic rx7 supposed to be this slow? my friend's damn chevette beat me off the line lol. would it be faster if i replaced my catalytic converter? (has a hole in it i think)
I do it ocassionally starting from a stop in 1 and shifting at just over 6000. I haven't killed my tranny yet.
One time I even fudged up and let it go up to 7500. Gotta pay attention cause it gets up there pretty fast.

I don't necessarily know that it's good for it though. So don't try to hold me responsible for anything. All in all the auto trans is pretty weak from what I understand. So it's bound to break eventually.

I have been driving like that for a year now and have not broke my tranny yet...(I just did the 5 speed conversion though last night--so no more auto)...I brought it to the drag strip (about 2.5 months ago)in order to get a decent time I put it in neutral, reved up to 6000rpm slammed it into first and chirpped the tires and ran a 17.3--not bad for an auto!! The only thing that broke was the diffential rubber mount---I sheered it off...this only happened because of driving it at the drag stip and slamming into gear...Shifting it manually for everyday driving is perfectly ok--It worked for me and my tranny still works...If anyone wants it PM me!!!
