shifting 1st -> 2nd = waiting for revs to drop... what to do?
ok this is a really hard problem to describe, but I'll do my best. bear with me.
here's my situation. I get the car going from a stop and take 1st gear all the way up to 7000rpm. I drop the clutch, let off the gas, and put the stick into 2nd. during the time it has taken me to do this, the engine speed drops a little, but not alot. also, my vehicle speed has remained about the same (assuming a flat grade, smooth road, etc.)
so here I am doing the same road speed as I was in 1st gear @ 7000, but now I'm ready to engage 2nd and the rpm have only dropped to about 6000 or 6500 (way too high for 2nd gear at this road speed). my best practice so far has been simply to wait (with the clutch still on the floor) until the engine revs drop to 4000rpm so I can engage 2nd gear as smoothly as possible. the only problem is, this takes FOREVER (relatively speaking). what do you do to while waiting for your engine to lose 3000rpm?
it's probably not more than 1 second I'm talking about waiting, but when I want to HAUL ***... 1 second seems like a decade.
does this make sense to anyone?
yes, I'm SOMEWHAT of a 5-speed n00b, and I know experience counts for a lot. I just want to know if I'm missing something.

Very simple 2 step process for this:
1. Stop being a *****.
2. Dump the clutch.
No offence meant by the ***** thing, of course. When you let the clutch out, the load on the motor will pull it to the right speed.

Lightweight flywheels are REALLY expensive. Just go out and experiment with it. You don't need to let the revs drop at all. If you get REALLY brave, try powershifting (Gas to the floor through the entire shift...be quick with it)
Disclaimer: I take NO responsibility for anything you break attempting to powershift. Don't do it until you have a LOT more experience.

Prosthetic head.
I didn't even read your question. But the answer: Simple. The RPM's won't go down from 1st to 2nd. Just how it is. Now I'll read your question.
I'm a *****, but I still slam the gears when I decide to go fast.
