Shifter vibrates when car is "ON" but not started...
heh... searched, just for the hell of it, thought I'd post it.
I thought it was my fuel pump.... but it can't be THAT loud. I don't hear it, but I can feel it on the shifter. Its a very faint vibration, but I know its there. When the key is "ON" it does it, when I start the car I OBVIOUSLY couldn't tell, and when the key is off... it goes away.
Car is in "N" and all fans/stereos or whatever are off.
Could it be the OMP?
I thought it would be... but my block is a S4; all S5 intake and exaust and ****... just the block, and rotors are S4. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure the S4's mechanical OMP is on there. Unless the S5 electric OMP can go on the S4 block... its S4. Any other guesses?

I had the starts and dies in 2 seconds, and i learned a lot from that. THe fuel pump only runs when the engine is running or when cranking the engine.
Only way the fuel pump could be running is if the yellow jumper in the engine bay is jumped or the AFM is a bit open. that is with the engine not running and key with ignition on.
My problem was that one of the wires leading from the circuit opening relay wasn't making contact somewhere under the dash, so I just ran a new wire to the engine wire harness.

Incorrect on the only running while on/starting. The fuel pump will have a ~~ 2 second prime mode when you FIRST turn the car on, then it turns off (not a pressure switched prime, just time only). Then when the car is running or cranking, the fuel pump is back on.

It might turn on and prime, but my point is that it's not on constantly in the "ON" position. The original poster asked what could cause his shifter to vibrate with the key in the "ON" position. I said it couldn't be the fuel pump because it's not running constantly without the car running. That was the point I was trying to make.
Also, my car doesn't prime the fuel system with the key in the ON position. I don't hear the pump running and I certainly don't see any change in fuel pressure on my guage.

Do you have the stock pump or aftermarket? I have the RP pump, and it is definately audible with the car in the on position. If you want to prove yourself wrong, go out and check the pump wires for the 12v in the on position.

Okay, the fuel pump does not run at all if you just turn the key to ON. No priming, nothing. It will not run unless the key is in the START position or the AFM registers airflow. So it's not the pump.
I dunno if you'd feel it in the cabin, but the BAC valve is being operated by the ECU when you turn the key to ON. It's being rapidly oscillated open and closed, so it makes a buzzing sound that you might feel through the shifter.
