alright im learning about cars as i go iv never worked on a transmission before iv watched some guys do it but ive never done it and would have to be able to find some time to replace em. anyway my shift up light come on in fith on and if i pull back on the sifter just a little bit it goes off could that also be a syncro going out. im pretty shure theres one for every gear right.? and would you recomend me replacing them im fairly certain that i could do it however i never have before. or should i take it somewhere.

If you don't know cars backwards-and-forwards, there's no way you can attempt a transmission rebuild. Transmissions are more complicated than engines, and are arguably five times harder to rebuild, as the tools and presses are incredibly specialized.

Slow down

I know you want to assume that the tranny needs a rebuild because of this, but you should check the bushings in the shifter. If they are worn, the shifting can stick when you shift into each gear. It feels sloppy and vague. If these are your symptoms look into changing the bushings.

I changed mine and there is no vague feeling and shifts are easy and precise. I hope yours is as easy to fix as mine.
