Loudness of Rotary Warmup w/New Exhaust?

I was thinking about doing my exhaust on my 89' TII, and I came to thinking about the 3k rpm warmup process when I start the car. With louder exhausts, am I going to feel like an idiot every time I start my car and make it sound like i'm trying to race someone, or is it not that bad? Anyone have some sound clips of their car starting and revving to 3k rpms and coming back down like standard?

hey drifter101, my next door neighboor used to use my startup as an alarm too, haha. Everybody use to talk smack to me and about me at school cuz of it too, somebody spit their gum out into my N1 and it burnt up all gross, that bastard! I finally disabled it when removing a bunch of emissions stuff tho.

start the car with it in any gear instead of "N" and it won't do it. you can't disable it on the S5's.

the 3000rpm thing is horible on the engine. it was made for lower emissions when cold.

3K warmup

I guess its kinda a mute point if you cant disable it, but the 3k RPM warmup isnt needed at all. The reason they had it do that was to warm up the precats faster, which improves the emmisions. It can't be good for the engine. Its even more useless if you have the pre-cats removed. I have a racing beat downpipe/pre-silencer assembly and N1 exhasut on my car, so it was particulary defeaning before i disabled it.

Removing the AWS solenoid will lower the revs it starts at.

If you remove the aws you'll idle around 1500 until the thermowax heats up. Much easier on the engine than the damn 3k warm up.

The thermowax only holds it at 900-1000rpm. With the AWS gone the BAC valve holds it at ~1500 for the first 15 seconds.

So I should still let it warm up, just not with the AWS method? I always used to wait for it to rev up and slowly come down again. How could I disable it without needing to put it in gear every time I start my car.

just start it up in gear.. it wont do it.. drive somewhere where theres not a lot of people, and then warm it up.

Thats what I do.

Another option- Put a plug in the AWS line with a hole in it to give just enough RPM's according to your preferance.
My 91NA plug was drilled 1/8". If I remember, it gave about 3-400 PRM increase.

with my AWS gone it went from 3000 to about 2800 LOL... the BAC and other thing facing the firewall are both still open I think.

thermowax holds at 1500 till fully warm.

it should be in gear when you park it anyways.... so stick the clutch in and start. wait 30 secs. drive away.

To be honest, I have no idea what the factory set the cold idle speed at, but mine has always been 900-1000rpm. All you need to do is maintain a smooth idle while the engine's cold, so any more than that is just increasing engine wear unnecessarily. The cold idle speed is easily changed by adjusting the screw on the back of the TB. This might lower your 2800rpm start too.

Not my car. Thats what you make sure you have a good parking brake for. Doesn't it stress your tranny quite a bit if your on a hill in gear?
