shifter question

i am putting in a Miata short throw shifter.

i got the stock shifter out fine, however there is a clip thingy and a bushing in the bore that i didn't know were going to be there. picture is below. i am just wondering how to move that clip properly so that i can get that bushing out, and also i can just throw that bushing and use the plastic one that came with the short shifter?
This is a S4 tranny by the way (pretty sure it is anyways).

I don't know what the clip is, I don't remember it in mine, have you tried removing it?

that clips keeps the small ball of the shifter in the cup. it usually breaks which is why you haven't seen it in yours. although, i didn't think that stock shifters came with a bushing. are you sure the stock shifter is "stock"? could be wrong though. If it fits you can still use it, its there to keep from rattling and such.

yeah, i have tried removing it, but not very hard. i want to be sure not to mess anything up with that. but i will take a look at it again and see if it pulls out somehow. i just want to know if anyone else has removed it.

the reason i mentioned removing the bushing is because the Miata short throw comes with its own.

i have no reason to believe my transmission and shifter are not a stock series 4. it has a stock S4 **** and lever, and reverse gear definetly doesn't feel like it has synchromesh (S5s do).
