Shifter Problem, but not bushings...

Hi all, I checked the old posts and it seems a lot of people have problems with their shifter being too losse and moving up and down. My problem is that the shifter moves left and right very loosely between the 1st/2nd and 3rd/4th neutral slots. 5th/R bounces back just fine. When I took out my shifter, I used some needle nose pliers to check the slot where the shift ball goes in, and found that it was indeed loose. Any way to change a spring or something down there? The bushings only keep it from moving up and down right? Not side to side? Please post with any advice. Thanks.

Hey guys, nevermind, I read a little more and saw that everyone is saying it is too hard to replace that spring and it's not worth the effort. Sorry for wasting valuable posting space...
