shifter problem

On my 88' TII the shifter (5 spd.) doesnt return to the neutral position. its pulled to one side, meaning one of the springs is detatched. Ive checked the haynes manual and theres no mention/picture of the springs or how to get to them. If someone knows how to fix this problem or has a pic of it I'd be grateful.

P.S. This is my first RX7, had it for about 3 months now, despite the problems I love it.

its not stuck in a position. just when I pull it out of gear to shift it will pull to the left, instead of staying in the middle. it also makes finding third and forth a pain while driving

I think I know what you all are talking about. If you look at the shifter housing(not the transmission housing) from the bottom of the car you should notice a plate that is bolted onto the housing(triangular piece with rounded edges and s round extrusion in the geometric center) this piece should have 2 bolts on each end. When you take this off you should be able to see the spring(actually it should just pop out of the housing). I think that is the spring you are taking about, I think this spring pushes the rod end to the right so when you are in neutral you shifter stays in the middle(shifter has natural tendency to want to move to the left). This is just an ordinary spring, if you can find a spring with about same elasticity and length it should do the job. Be aware that when you take that plate off the oil inside the housing will drain along with it, so when you reinstall the spring make sure you fill the shifter housing back with good gear lube or transmission oil.
