Shifter locked out of higher gears + reverse??
Here's the story.
I took my car out last night, on Christmas, because I needed to get out of the house, get some air, whatever you wanna call it. All night it shifts great. Almost too great. I park at my buddy's house, and left it running, because I was just stopping by. I back out of his driveway, and take down the street.
The shifter lets me have first obviously, and then second. When I go for third, the shifter won't cross into the 3rd/4th line. I figured it was the bushings and just drove it home in 2nd (gotta love the ability to hold 4k without hurting the engine).
This morning I get out and pull the shifter out of the extension housing. Bushings are fine, but the little thing the end of the shifter sits into won't move to the left. I then noticed there was a large nut on the housing that was backed off pretty far. I finger-tightened it and the shifter seemed to be able to move again a little bit. I reinstalled the shifter, and then could shift from 1-4 fine, but no 5th or Reverse.
Any ideas what the hell is going on?

You mentioned a nut on the housing, perhaps if you tighten it more, it will allow you over to 5th and reverse. I don't know this for a fact, but since doing it fingertight allowed you to get over to 3rd and 4th, it only seems logical. Might want to check what exactly that nut does first though.
