Shifter Bushings- Top AND bottom or what??
OK- My shifter bushings are going to be replaced... My shifter rattles CONSTANTLY!! It's like a needy teenage girlfriend- it's horribly annoying, and I hate having to keep my hand on it all the time!
It only got this bad in the last month.
Anyways, I noticed that Mazdatrix sells a kit, which they say you can't get from Mazda, which includes the bottom bushings too.
Now, I just ordered the top bushing (the 3 pc set 8EF2) set from the dealership, is this enough to fix the problem, or does it require top and bottom??
They apparently don't supply the bottom one or something....
It's just that I am in Canada, and ANYTHING ordered from the States gets dinged with a lot of shipping, customs, taxes, duty, whatever- So I am trying to avoid Mazdatrix.
Thanks!!

I replaced both the top & Bottm on mine. Can't believe you would help it much by just changing the top bushing. Mazdatrix sells both top & Bottom or look on ebay there's always somebody selling new bushing sets.
The bushing you got from the dealer is the upper blue one and is not very durable, DO NOT use this as the lower bushing, you need the white bushing and spring. You should get the inner boot also, it has probably had it too since your bushings are shot.
Mazdatrix part #'s:
BOOT SHIFTER INNER 81-95 ALL 17-480A-M513 $24.33
BUSHING SHIFTER SET 84-95 LOWER 99-1780-M505 $7.96
When you change your bushings, be sure to get your shifter into the lower spring or it will not return to the center of the shift pattern, I know from experience...I just did this yesterday. Also, the inner boot comes attached to its own metal plate, so you do not need the metal cap that is currently on your shifter, at least this is what Mazdatrix told me. You'll understand what I mean when you get the parts and look at them.
Good Luck

OK- Does anyone know what the stock Mazda P/N is for the lower bushing??
I can't even find it on the parts diagram!?
I REALLY don't want to order it from mazdatrix because you would be amazed at how much it will cost to have it delivered here...
How can mazdatrix get something, a genuine Mazda part, if the dealership can't?

Ya... That's what I figured, but the "parts guy" was having trouble finding the parts.... I will try tomorrow morning, and see if he can find something with the entire part number!
It's too bad you can't just use 2 uppers.... but I have heard they are too soft to be used in the lower position.

Bambam,
Windsor is right across the river from Detroit, right? Do you want to meet me somewhere in Detroit, if I get the part for you? I live about 45 min from Detroit, and I'll help you out and have the part delivered to my house, if you want.
