Shifter Bushings!!!!

I have a lot of play on my shifter. So I'm thinking of replacing the bushings as that seems to be one of the most common problems. What are the other symptoms of the broken shifter bushings?

Jay Kim

p.s. I'm asking this because someone told me that unless you could move your shifter up and down you shouldn't worry about bushing. But I thought having excessive horizontal play in the shifter was also the worn or broken bushings.

If it rattles at higher rpms, you need new bushings

I just put bushings on my tII today. It was really sloppy - I had NO bushings! The biggest bitch part is thr rubber boot underneath. If you are just replacing the bushings its a lil messy from grease and such but it should take no longer than 45 minutes even for idiots like myseelf

Ha. I testdrove an 87 N/A today... I had so much room in the gears, I mis-shifted like 4 times. And yes, it rattled at high RPM's. So, if this only takes a few minutes and a couple bucks to fix... I *shouldn't* have much to worry about that. I mean... The clutch petal was nice... it wasn't spongey or anything. I just need to take the car for a compression test monday.

its easy, look up Mazdatrix.com. they have a how=to w/ pictures, they will even sell you the parts. id buy all my dealer-only parts from them, since they get ALL their parts from the same warehouse in cali. that your local mazda dealer would. the only diff. is, Mazdatrix is cheaper.

itll feel like a new car after this fix.

good luck

Kim,
Go to the Mazdatrix website. They have a nice faq article on the replacement of bushings. I get to do mine next week. Oh, Joy!
