Shift Warning Buzzer??

Why did they put one in the car and is there a way to get rid of it. It periodically goes off at around the 3 grand mark while Im cruising at 30 in 2nd. I know the engine is not over-revving so thats not it, but I dont know why it would be doing that unless it just sucks. Cause I mean the only purpose it serves is for embarassing the hell out of me when it goes off at random times while I have a girl in the car with me. It seriously sounds retarded.

Come on yall. Help me out!!!

The same buzzer is used for low oil and low coolant. You sure you don't have either of those problems?

Omg....Keep the buzer, that'll save your engine someday.

Its a warning when you are missing coolant , oil and when you over rev.

I would guess that your 7 is down on coolant or oil.

And if a girl laughs at your car because its warning you that something is wrong, kick her out on the curb and throw her a quarter so she can call her mom so she can come pick her up. Stupid *****. Get a better one.

Yeah, I checked my oil and coolant yesterday when I did a complete tune up and it doesn't have any leaks of any kind.

burp your coolant system, you might just have trapped air setting off the buzzer. also check the connections/grounds on the lines the buzzer is connected to.

The shift warning is just a light not a buzzer. For economy purposes in the '80's, other cars had them also.

If you hear the buzzer as others has suggested probably coolant or something else.

Just because the coolant reservoir is full doesn't mean the buzzer won't go off. Check both places to make sure its full.

Okay, update. I checked all the fluids and they were all fine. I drove it to see if it would do it again, and low and behold, it did! But only when I turned right. So I got in the dash and noticed the the wires coming off of it were bare at the terminals and for some reason they were touching on right turns. So I wrapped them with a bit of electrical tape and now.... Everything is fine and dandy.

So to the guy who suggested short. Thanks. Thats exactly what it was.
