Shift boot cover orientation
Shift boot cover orientation
Hi All,
I recently removed a worn out shifter boot cover from my 88 vert. I did not notice the orientation of the cover when I removed it
. The covers have a small arrow on them.
Which way is the arrow supposed to point? Towards the front of the car, rear, driver or passenger? I have to work it in under the metal ring and only want to do it once!
Thanks.

I mean the rubber boot. I did not notice an arrow on the mettle that holds the boot in place. I guess it would make sense if they both pointed the same way. I'll give it a try and let you know.
Wiggling it around to get things lined up is a PITA.

I lined up the arrows (pointing forward) and wiggled everything into place. I'm pretty sure my squarish bracket is made of steel because of a little bit of rust on it.
I now have the inner boot on.
How do you get the fat shiny steel piece off of the shift lever in order to slide the innerboot on? I don't want to put a pipe wrench on it if I'm not supposed to.
I did notice a small hole in the side, but it did not seem like it was for a set screw.
Dang, I'm almost there!
