SHES ALIVE AGAIN!!!! but now

okay as some of you may know after getting my car back from landers, it ran great for a weekend and then wouldnt stay started ...

i thought it was the afm so i wait to get one in the mail ...
it comes i put it in, and nothing changes ...

kevin suggested that i checked the safc wiring to make sure nothing came loose or what ever ..
so i check it , and everything is still connected, so i isolate the safc and just put the stock afm wiring back together ... sure enough the bitch fires right up and stays started >.... WOOOOHOOOOO!!!

so i reattached the safc, and shes running just fine again ..
one thing though ...

the TACH is not responsive ...

i checked the safc to monitor the RPM, and it doesnt see any either ...

the tach jumps when i start the car so i know its not dead, ....

i assume the wire is loose for the tach as well, so off i go ...

just figured i would give an update to this, as i didnt want to make it sound like kevins engine wasnt running right ... cause the engine is rocking, and ive never been happier behind the wheel of my rex

THANKS KEVIN!!

That'd be my guess, too. The tach is run off of the signal from the trailing coil, so if the coils dead, there is your problem with the tach and the faliure to keep running.

***update***

the RPM (green) wire on the safc to the wire on the harness (ECU side) was connected, but something was wrong with it ... not sure what, but when i reconnected the ecu wire bypassing the safc wire it worked for a second, then died again ... so i messed with it for a while and ended up cutting the spliced section out, (it was spliced to "T" the safc wire into it), and running a new wire between the cut ... started it up and it worked like a charm !!

so i then just attached the safc RPM wire to that new wire, and BAM!! its all good ...
im not good a soldering, so as soon as either garfinkle or rotorbrain can , im gonna get them to solder those connections together so i never have to worry about this crap again ..

anyway .. .long story short it was the SAFC the whole time causing my woes ...
anyway ... thanks for the reply's, and i gotta go drive now!!

Make sure you solder it, heat shrink tube it and you should never have another problem out of that connection.
I have portable butane soldering gun that I bought when I graduated from I.T.T. and went to work for GE Medical installing and repairing hospital equipment.
If we all get together again soon I wil bring it, and some heat shrink tubing.

man i get the damn tach working great last night .. reinstall the kick panel ... restart it to get it out of the garage, and park it outside ..

get out there this morning, and the damn thing is dead again ... either that wire is being stupid or the trailing coil is going out ... but i assume its the wire , as it works for a minute and then doesnt ... retap the wire, and it works great again ... and then this morning it doesnt

Ha! Thought it was the SAFC! Good to hear it's running!! Make sure the TAC wire going into the ECU is still in place.

Are you using anything to hold the two wires together? Tape will not do...try wire nuts until you can get them soldered.
