Do not weld it; you could cause it to rust later down the road by doing this. Get some structural adhesive then glue it and screw it into place with some sheet metal screws and pull them out when is sets. Then use some body filler.

To prevent rust ; weld, sand, ospho, bondo, sand, sand, sand, primer, sand,s and, sand, paint. These cars have a few welds in them, a few more won't hurt if handled right.

Zinc cromate works fine under most urethane primers and will deffianlty keep from rusting. From paiting a lot of outboard motors for salt water application this is a must use everytime

warp007 I have taken my 7 to a couple of welders and they told me the best way to do this is get a 2nd gen door from the bone yard and cut your metal from it. Our body panels are tuff to duplicate and if you wan't to have a smooth look with 12lbs of bondo I suggest this.
