Play nice children.

As for the driveshat, most driveline shops can rebuild it easily. Used shafts at this point are kind of a crap-shoot because these cars are 20 years old and well worn.

the 'clunk' noise may be the dif mount. A buddies was just replaced on a 87 T2.
www.turblown.net sells them for pretty cheap.

too bad you CAN'T replace the U joints on the FC stock driveshaft. have you ever tried? they made the driveshaft without replaceable U joins. you have to get an entirely new driveshaft.

this happened to me. it would vibrate like crazy when i reached certain speeds. i could also hear it sometimes making funny noises when i was going slow in parking lots or going in reverse. you should fix it asap. a buddy of mine told me that his friend in a jeep had a broken U joint, it hit the ground, bounced back up + went through the floor in his jeep. i dunno how true that is, but having your driveshaft break at all while driving would just plain old suck.

changing it isn't hard at all. just jack her up, tack off the back part of the exhaust, un-do the 4 bolts on the DS, then pull it out. a haynes manual is a good investment since you seem like you're going to be doing some more things to your car.

yep, i have the haynes manual, i've had it for over a year and a half before i even got the car, i planned on getting one as a project car cheap, and thats exactly what i have now. doesnt bother me a bit. and im ordering the aftermarket driveshaft from mazdatrix since it apparently has rebuildable u-joints.

Didn't you read the link? You CAN replace the u-joints if you are willing to do some work.

A driveline shop can also replace them.

Do I remember you (the thread starter) saying that when you are not moving the tranny whines a little? I hope not. A whining transmission when idling generally means that the.....I'v forgotten the name of it. The long shaft that goes all the way through the tranny. If the tranny is whining, then it is generally time to have that shaft replaced. Which means either have the tranny rebuilt and that shaft replaced or get another tranny. That shaft is not easily repaired.

its not like a whine, its more like kinda whurring noise, if it whined, i wouldnt drive it at all and know it would be bad, its coming more from the clutch/pressureplate/flywheel area. and since i've changed the tranny fluid it seems to have stopped or at least quieted down alot

if there is a clunk... your worn u-joints could be wearing into the metal of the yolks. if the u-joints are worn... that allows play when on or off the accelerator that will divert on/off torque into the yolk and wear into the metal. you better not drive the car if thats the case b/c thats what happened to me and let me tell you, it is not fun having the front yolk break @ 60mph. having a driveshaft break a yolk @ 60mph and have its fun in your driveshaft tunnel and on top of your exhaust sucks. lol. i just bought a new driveshaft and all is well now. hope that helps.

ps: your symptoms sound exactly like mine were the day mine snapped. it would clear up at higher speeds but around lower ones... the dash would shake and it felt like my wheels were hoping.

bump for another problem(this is getting tiresome), for those of you who have gxl and power windows, where can i get this little black rotating thing that goes onto the driving shaft of the motor for the power windows, its this thing that moves these beads that move the window up and down....mine is stripped and the window will not move and keeps falling down.

Please don't use the word Die and Iraq in the same sentence.
Good luck and may the angels keep you safe.

I say you call and take off running from your base. Or maybe skip away. ROFLMAO.

Sorry. I totally respect our military, just hate seeing them thrown out there.
