Severe Brake Problem!!!! Brakes Locked!!!

So I was driving to dinner last nite and I notice a couple times that the acceleration wasn't up to par. After letting the clutch out the car strongly tries to stop and my foot is no where near the brake pedal. So I pull off into a parking lot and when the car comes to a stop (on it's own) there is smoke pouring out of the front wheel wells. A closer inspection shows that my rotors are blue and that my brake pedal is solid. So I figure the front calipers have seized up fully depressed. I was following a friend so we go to dinner and come back after to call the tow truck.

I get in the car to check...and the pedal feels fine and the car is rolling
again. So I have my friend follow me home and no problems......well.....

Problems like these are of course not ignorable so today I go out driving
hitting the brakes at different levels of force to try and reproduce the same circumstances. I get no effect so I head home, however on the way home I start to notice the same effects and I let of the gas and the car brakes fairly quickly. I was close to home so I limped it into my driveway and of course there's smoke pouring out again, etc. The backs as far as I can tell are fine, at least there was no smoke coming out of them. Has anyone had this problem before.

Here's the deal with my brakes. They are stock except for stainless steel lines at the four corners, which were put in at the end of december. I adjusted the pedal freeplay several weeks ago as the pedal was braking to far down. Since the adjustment I have driven the car on several occasions (though since I walk to work and don't usually drive when me and my friends go out, it isn't often) without any problems like this. Does anybody have any ideas. I'm thinking it could be the proportioning valve sticking, or maybe even the master cylinder. It doesn't seem to be the calipers themselves, because I've never heard of calipers seizing and then un-seizing afterwards. Does anyone have any suggests for me?

By the way it seemed as if the braking force got harder the further I drove it like this.

Thanks A Lot

You have probably over-adjusted the free play.As you use the brakes and the fluid etc warm up the free play you had disappears and the brakes apply themselves--the more you drive the worse it gets. When everything is cooled down some free play re-appears and the brakes unlock.

Thanks a lot,

i thought of that after I posted. When I get a chance I'll re-adjust it.
