Setting timing and putting belts right?

how can i check and make sure my belts and timing are both set correctly without buying all the diagnostic tools? or is it possible? so far it's been going good, for having that check engine light self checker thing and all

Align the front pulley to the marker on the front cover, pull out the CAS, align the dots on the CAS and plug it back in. Then give it a bit of a turn to realign them.

...or use a timing light on the T1 plug wire....
