Setting Idle/Timing with initial set connector jumped?!?!

I am trying to troubleshot my low power in my '91 TII. I am thinking my timing may be off.

My idle is right at 750 RPM +/- 30 RPM. When I jump the initial set connector it drops my idle to 500 RPM. So I then go the BAC and turn the screw to get my idle to increase. Problem is that I run out of screw turning ability (Not me the screw). It only rasies to 600 RPM. So if I set the timing at 600 RPM it will have off timing throughout my RPM range. How else can I increase idle speed so that I can set my timing with the initial set connector grounded. Any help on this one?

Won't do squat to your timing. Leave it where it is at 500 or whatever.

[Hailers] The FSM says to set timing with the intial set connector jumped and I can't get my idle up to 750RPM. Is there anyway to get idle higher? Other than using the BAC screw?

My thoughts on this is that all you want to do is keep the idle below something like 1000 rpm where it starts to advance. If your at 500 or 750 your doing just fine for setting the timing. Safe as can be. The idle to the best of my limited knowledge does not have to be at 750 to set the timing. If you really think it is something that should be done, and you bac screw is having no effect, have you tried turning the variable resistor a little richer? If you have done that then either turn that throttle stop screw just a very small hair to increase the idle or the fast idle screw just a hair. If your just out to set the timing, I think your doing just fine at the 500-600 that you are at right now. Do the timing and then go after the low idle. If you mess with the throttle stop screw or the fast idle screw, you can plan on resetting the tps because they are inter-related. Not such a big thing to do, but don't be surprised if the tps if off after touching the fast idle screw or throttle stop screw. Have fun. EDIT... a little disclaimer here, I only work on 86-88 rx's. There could be something different on your 91.

I just re-read your post. I assume the 91 throttle body is different, but I'll bet it has a throttle stop screw somewhere. On a 87 turboii its under the intercooler, and on the rear side of the throttle body. It has a 8mm jam nut on a tiny screw that touches the throttle stop. Sorry, I just realize from a post that I read today that the later model turbos do not have a variable resistor, so that is out, if true. There has to be a throttle stop screw though, and you could just turn it a tad to get the 750 you want. Partly sorry about the above post with the mention of the variable resistor. Do read the disclaimer though. Personaly I don't think you timing will be off if you set it at say, 600 instead of 750. I'm sure someone will pipe in and say one way or the other. EDIT...I just looked at section five of the 87 fsm and it does not require the initial set jumper to be jumpered. It just says set the idle at the specified idle speed and see section 4 if need be. When you set the timing in section five the initial set couplet is not jumpered. At least not on a 87. On a 91, can't say.
