servicing tips /loss of compression
Hi i have been asked to do a service on a friends 1989 rx7 ,same as the one at the top of this page , i was just wondering is there anything special; i should know about regarding types of engine oiul ,plug type & quantity ,sorry to appear to sound s o stupid but despite having 30 yrs experience as a pro mechanic ,i have never touched one of these strange beasts .Also recently there was a total loss of compression experienced ( or thats what it sounded like anyway)After being moved a short distance then stopped .After returning to it after 30 mins it would'nt start and as i say no compression .I bump started it down a hill and it started eventually in clouds of blue smoke ,ever since it has ran fine any ideas or feedback on these queries would be gratefully accepted .Thanks for looking Steve
Motor oil is standard minreal oil in whatever proper weight for the climate you need. Spark plugs should always be NGK and 4 are used. Two leading and two trailing. They have differing numbers on them and little letters "L" "T" on the ceramic part. What probably happened to your friend was that it just flooded on him. THese car's injectors tend to get stuck and leak fuel so when the engine is not warm the fuel gets dumped into the cumbustion chamber and floods it.
Leading Plugs: NGK - BUR7EQ
Trailing Plugs: NGK - BUR9EQ
Ask your mazda dealership for a spark plug set for a rotary engine FC RX7. They will give you a set that has two of each.
