service tach, where to buy?

I'd like to have service tach so I don't have to keep running back and forth from engien bay to drivers seat to check my RPM's. Unfortunately, I'm having difficulty finding one. Please, those of you who know, tell me where to look.

On another, similar note, is an inductive timing light okay, or is that the kind everyone says to stay away from, or am I confusing issues?

the one's I've seen are just normal tachs mounted to the firewall or connected to a clamp.

If you're doing something that requires that much running around looking at the tach on the dash, you probably need to invest in other tools . Really, after a while, you get to tell by ear when it's at a good idle, when it's idling high, etc.

An inductive timing light that you buy at any parts store is fine. It has to be powered off the battery and not self-powered - the self-powered ones are the "bad" ones. I don't think I've ever even seen one like that, though .

Thanks guys. I can pretty much tell by ear when she's at a good idle, but I like to be perfect, and its difficult to tell the difference between 750, and 760 RPM. Both are nice and smooth, and fairly quiet. Again, thanks guys.

While perfection is often difficult to achieve, it is always easy to stive for.
