seriously give me your opinion

i have an 89 gxl with 201k on the origional everything. it has full suspension, intake, and exhaust. the engine is halfway going bad with a case of losing compression...

i've been thinking of selling my car and getting another kind of car totaly, but today i was driving along and saw a realy clean 88 turbo 2. so i stopped and looked at it its red, 124k, 5 spd, and really no flaws except some pealing clear coat and a rusted exhaust, but no other rust on the whole car. car drives smooth and pulls all the way up to redline. i would definatly compression test the engine before i bought it

this car is owned by a 70ish lady who is THE ORIGINAL OWNER of the car. she's asking 3200 for the car and said it was negotiable, probable get her down to 2500.

questions
1.how much do you think i could get for my car?
2. does that turbo sound like a good deal?
3. i've heard turbo's are unreliable, is that just heresay or are they really not reliable for a daily driver?

no offence to s4 people, but i felt like taking a step down sitting down from my s5 into this s4

TIIs generally only last 100k BUT ive heard of them going over that, but it may getting close to time for a rebuild. If u can get her down to 2500 thats sounds like a pretty damn good deal. As far as the exhaust goes, most of them are rusted out by now and easly replaced. LOL honestly though how many 70 year olds drive a 7? I wish my grandma drove one.
i say go for it, but be ready for a rebuild just in case cuz if she driven it like her age, its probly got alil carbon build up.

if an old lady drives it, she probably hasnt beaten on it too much (although this one seems sorta freaky for an old lady). id go for it. turbo power for the win!

Yah man if you can get her down to $2500 then its worth it. With that many miles on the original engine then theres no doubt that the engine will need to be replaced or rebuilt real soon.

If you do decide to pick up the TII, just be prepared to need a rebuild very soon. But, since your GXL has 201k on it, I don't think you would be trading down any at all.

If I were you, I'd do it.

Yeh, be prepared Just like anything else in general..

124K miles is nothing really as long as it's got good compression and no other problems. So I wouldn't predict a rebuild very soon, or maybe you do. I don't know.... Who knows, maybe it could last you upto 200K miles.....

I'd jump on that, i need to find some grandma around here with a t2 with minor problems. I dont think the turbo would be a bad daily driver as long as you are taking care of it, and doing any preventative maintenance. It will be as good as any car its age I guess. You'll have to put premium gas in it, if thats an issue for you. Worst case scenario you have to buy exhaust, an engine rebuild, and possibly a new turbo. But for less than 5k you could have a very fast sexy car. What sounds better than that for the price?

only prob i see w/ a grandma driving it, is she would keeping the RMPs down cuz shes afraid to hurt it, and if u think about the rx8 auto engines fuckn up due to high carbon, due to the owners bein afraid to take there NEW cars up to redline is same idea. So if u can get some compression #s, but either way, If it still runs..... it sounds like ur getting a good deal
