Series V TII still competitive in AutoX?
I've been hearing a lot about how our NA cars are outdated and can't keep up with the newer, lighter, miatas, MR2s, S2000s, etc. How are the Turbos doing?

Shoved in AS, but they are now moved to BS.
SP goes into A - did they change this?
BP - gotta be kidding me
EP - not even close
Credit Craig Naegler[sp?] of Tri-Point fame for boosting the FC turbos into such high a class.  Before the FD's came out, his FC turbo used to romp in BS and BSP...

The guy that won BP at the nationals this year was a T2. The rest of the field was made up of Corvettes. Other than that I think 2nd gen T2 cars are getting pretty rare.

I run mine, but I'm not an expert or anything. Being in ASP is a total gyp, the 3rd gen's are in ASP also and with the motor mods I have, I can hang with a stock 3rd gen. A 3rd gen with the same mods as me will putting 270ish to the wheels! That's what I'm putting at the flywheel...

Money for money they're WAY ahead of anything else that's new if you ask me. They're old so they're cheap to buy, and that leaves you with some extra $$ to spend on it.
And besides, they're still pretty modern in their design.

Stock
Street Prepared
Prepared
Modified
(Stock to extreme modified, top to bottom)
Within those groups, it is broken down into sub-groups depending on car model.  These are alphabetical, A-H (but i think Prep and Mod only go to E?).  Generally, A is fastest and H is slowest.
So "ASP" = A-Street Prepared.
"BP" = B-Prepared
"EM" = E-Modified
SCCA has each car slotted in a specific class, as detail by the given SCCA link.

Persona non grata
I'm going to give BP a run ... probably next year. And I have Sam Platt in my local SCCA division, so I'll be able to gauge myself pretty easily. He has the Yellow/Green/Purple 3rd gen Corvette. If I can learn to drive an autocross I think I can be competitive. Maybe I'll let one of my good autocross driving buddies see what he can do with my car

Is stock the TII has to compete against the S2000, MR2 Turbo, Boxster, 300ZXtt, M3 (E36), Firebird WS6 ('96+).
Given that company I'd say the TII is still a fast car but definately falling somewhat behind the times as a ~15 year old car would.
In Street Prepared, forget about it there's just too many other cars including the 3rd gen that will slap it around - M3 Lightweight, 911 Turbo (all), Corvette (all '97+), M Coupe, Viper, etc.
For Prepared & up, it really up to the talent of the builder and driver.

I'd say they are still competive but the problem I've run into I too much power. I was exiting a J turn at one of the local autox and punched it even though I had the wheel turned the car just went stright (took out 5 cones), of corse that could of been because of the bald *** front tires

I have been autoxing for a few years. This year would be 3rd year at Nationals this year.
This is my opinion...
The FCs in stock form and Street prep form are out classed. It is hard to keep up with the new cars.. If you are running stock and want to be competitive there usually one car per class that dominates it. In my opinion stock class is the most expensive to run competitivly. You actually have to buy a new car instead of parts every few years...
As for running ASP.. one car.. street prepared ZO6s.. enough said....
Prepared.. BP is a good class for the car... you can make a lot power and have a weight limit much lower than a corvette.... I am not sure on the numbers but it is a significant difference.
Another class that has hope for the FC is SM2.. atleast for now.. in the end I think the class would be won by forced induction Miatas...
So as much as I hate to admit it our cars are pretty much outclassed as far as autox goes... this is my opnion....
BTW I race ESP in a Mustang Cobra...

I'm hoping to be running next month in my FP car. Its slowly coming together. Anyway, the TII that won BP last year was 150 HP down from the Corvettes and he showed what a good driver is capable of. I believe our cars can be competitive in prepared classes but it will require maxing the rules for weight reduction, autocrossing ever weekend to get seat time, fresh tires on a regular basis(expensive), and ofcourse a talented driver or atleast a good driver.
