Series 5 engine put in Series 4 Rx7 FC
Hey I was just wondering what id need to take out my current engine and put a series 5 bridge ported engine with bigger injectors and a bigger turbo, my car is a rx7 fc turbo 2, I know I need an ecu but would it be better to buy a standalone ecu or is there something else? I plan to make it a show car and rip huge flames out the back but safely as it will be my weekend car, Me and a bunch of my friends would be doing this, we both have never tuned anything before with a standalone ecu but we have done remapping before. I have no interest in racing I just grew up around rotaries and saw my uncle shooting huge flames out of his Eunos Cosmos and I want to do the same thing, sadly hes passed and the car was sold, but id like to recreate what he had if ykwim.

welcome to the board.
first, condolences about your uncle.
the simple answer is yes. in 2024, there's simply no reason for you not to get a standalone for a car like this.
as far as the S5 engine goes, there's nothing special required to get it into the car, and since you'd be doing a standalone, whatever wiring differences there were are now pretty much moot. that said, if all you want is show car that shoots flames, you don't need a bridge (and the new turbo, fueling, etc. that it would require) to do it.
