semi turbo on tII?

howdoooo...

allright. i just found a tractor trailer junkyard near my house.
i am going to go rip a turbo out of one of them bad boys.
prolly an intercooler too. if i can cut the core down to size and get new endtanks i think it will be a cheap way to get a decent sized front mount.

my question is this:
what will be the effects of putting a semi turbo on a tII with 3" exhaust.
i dont have any fuel mods. dont have that damn FCD. i dont care if it lags out the ***. (but please mention it)

the only thing i am worried is that i dont have a big enough wastegate for it. hahaha. aside from certainly needing a custom exhaust manifold, does anyone know what else i would need to make it work?

Take the money you'd spend on the turbo and get some damn fuel mods. 3 psi on one of those turbos would probably push more air than 12 psi out of the stocker. Not to mention be laggy as ****, especially on stock ports.

Keep in mind that diesels are made for low speed operation, most make boost early since they only rev to 25-3500 rpm. I don't know if the exhaust/compressor wheel would even work with such a small engine like the rotary..

If you are going to get one I'd get one out of a smaller truck, something with a single axle.

Your car would absolutely be slower on the street than it is now because of all that lag, and your boost level would still be limited to that of your current setup. You would need to upgrade the wastegate, fuel, etc. to get anything else out of it, and even then it wouldn't be good for anything but high-rpm drag racing, although I think that a more properly sized turbo would be better. Hehehe, there's always a way to make something like that fit, but I'm not sure if it would be worth the money and trouble. It would sure look cool, though.

Check out this tank turbo at the bottom of the page:

it all depends on the engine size of the truck the donor turbo is coming off. you basically need to hunt around for a turbo with similar sizes (compressor inducer/exducer, and exhuast turbine) to a T04.

Remember rotary sized T04's were originally truck turbos. Rice Racing has used truck turbos on a couple of customers cars, one of which was making a shave over 400rwhp (thats aussie RWHP - 550HP at the flywheel) if you wanna know which trucks to look for, e-mail Peter, he knows which trucks are suitable and which aren't.

Cheers
Shane

Yeah but TO4s are usually on smaller lighter duty trucks, like Powerstoke fords. He's talking about 18 wheelers. Those things have turbos the size of a basketball.

I found myself oogling a turbo the size of a 5 gallon bucket (diameter) on a crane truck. I think you'd have BIG problems with fitment.

Heh. You just might get some boost out of that...If you can turn 15,000 RPM.
