semi-transparent rear view mirror.
no it's not a reality yet, but the thought occured to me today. all FC owners must agree that the rear view mirror blocks a hell of a lot of vision, especially during the right-hand turns. so here's my plan:
1) cut away the plastic back of the rear view mirror casing, so that the glass can be seen from the front and back.
2) replace the mirror glass with regular clear glass, and apply some of the semi-reflective automotive mirror tint to the inside.
I estimate that the glass would have about the same reflectiveness as a regular rear-view mirror switched to "night mode", but the advantage would be that you could now see the kid walking his dog in front of you, etc.
I'm going to wait and get a spare rear-view mirror assembly before starting, since it could turn out all !@#$ed up, but what do you think of the idea?

Umm. I've never had a problem with my rear view mirror blocking my vision. And I'm 6'1" and sit straight up in the seat(thank you sunroofless GTUs!). I know it's a problem on FDs, but you're the first person I've ever heard complain about it on FCs.

Ok, do this: Go to a junkyard and buy a 3rd gen mirror(or any mirror that can be glued to the window glass). Unbolt the FC mirror from it's bracket and toss it aside. Using a kit from Kragen, glue the new mirror higher up on the glass so that the mirror sits higher. Problem solved. Lot easier than cutting stuff open and all that other jazz too.
