Seized S5 13B Turbo II - good buy ?

I was looking on craigslist and noticed that a local engine importer has a turbo II for sale for cheap ( $ 800 ) . Went down to take a look and was informed that the enigne is seized. They do get running turbo II motors in infrequently and I do know of someone who purchased from them and was very satisified. My question, how much money and work to rebuild the motor ? A good condition running motor through them costs $ 1299. Should I wait or is this a good buy ?

Sold - 1988 S4 N/a 5-speed

its a terrible buy. what do they mean by seized? at most, it's worth $200. if it doesn't turn over at all, it's scrap.

It's worth whatever you think the shell is worth. To someone that has an rx7 parts collection it could be worth more than to someone with no one. At the end of the day regardless of what the purchase would be, your the one that has to feel like they got a value.

This is regarding just the motor for sale as it is not an actual car. My plan was to talk him down and either rebuild the motor or use it for parts I can get the price right. how much would a rebuild cost ? And are S5 turbo 2 parts and motors hard to come by ?

seized= water pumper

Guaranteed ruined rotor and sideplates, and maybe the rotor housings..

I have opened plenty of these and 99% the time all the plates, rotors and rotor housing are garbage...

lets review - $800 for a maybe rebuildable TII engine ...

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-8...Q5fAccessories

Lets call that engine $1,500 shipped to you ...

You would be lucky to get out of the machine shop for the $700 difference!

Tell them they should pay YOU to take the engine off their hands!

What about parts ? If I talked him down to say $ 400 would the engine plus transmission be worth it ?

I would say yes..

Good used JDM trans $250.00
Good complete turbo setup $250.00 to 350.00

At the minumum you are in the BLACK with the sell of just those parts..

Open the motor and maybe get lucky and score a decent set of rotor housings..then you will be really happy.. easy $200.00 to 500.00 depending on condition...

@ $400.00, I dont see how you can lose..

And there are plenty other parts worth good money

yes I believe 400 on the rotary would be a good buy you should ask them how the motor seized did it go out slowly or did it go out all at once if the motor locked up all at once then no its not a good buy unless your just after the turbo kit and the transmission, if your after the motor then it would only be a good idea if the motor went out over time... then you could possibly try the ATF Trick to make the motor usable again... its worth a try i mean for $400 you could part the motor out and get your money back plus some over time

Or turbo's cooked and motors toast No money gained but a $400 transmission. Well.. $150 for the lim/uim/tb set up... So I guess it could be an OK deal.
